SENIOR SCHOLARship

Fulbright Senior Scholarships are available to American citizens to engage in 4 - 6 months of research or teaching at an Australian institution. The scholarship is directed towards academics at the level of Associate Professor and/or Professor.

Fields of Study

The Commission offers five Fulbright Senior Scholarships for U.S. citizens to visit Australia annually.
Fulbright Senior Scholarships are open to all fields of study.

Senior Scholarship Benefits

  • Travel entitlement of US$2,460
  • Stipend of A$3,227 per month for a maximum of 6 months
  • Establishment allowance of A$1,000
  • Excess baggage allowance of A$140
  • Transport and accommodation to attend a National Orientation Program and Presentation Dinner in Australia (May)
  • Transport and accommodation to an annual Enrichment Seminar held in Canberra in February or August, each year.
  • Access to U.S., Australian and international Fulbright Scholars and distinguished alumni.

Senior Scholars also receive the following allowances for dependants. The dependants must accompany the Scholar for 80% of the Australian visit to be eligible for these allowances.

  • Travel entitlement of US$2,460
  • A living allowance of A$250 per month for a maximum of 6 months

In addition, U.S. Fulbright Scholars are provided with free access to the national Medicare health care system during their program.

Duration

  • Fulbright Senior Scholarships must spend a minimum of four months in Australia, the majority of which should be at their host institution.
  • Fulbright funding is for a maximum of six months only and applicants must be able to demonstrate they have sufficient additional funds to support for themselves and any dependants during their stay in the Australia.

CIES’s National Selection Committee convenes.

December

Short listed U.S. application forms are sent to Australia.

February

Australia’s National Selection Committee makes the final selection and recommendation to the Australian-American Fulbright Commission Board for approval.

March

Applicants are notified of the selection outcomes (pending final approval by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board in the United States).

July 1 – June 30

Fulbright Scholarships are to be taken-up in the following year after July 1st.

Scholarship must be started after July 1st and before June 30th.
