Preference will be given to those who have a record of achievement and are poised for advancement to senior levels.
Vocational education and training (VET) is post-compulsory education and training, (excluding degree and higher level programs delivered by higher education institutions), which provides people with occupational or work-related knowledge and skills. VET also includes programs which provide the basis for subsequent vocational programs. Alternative terms used internationally include technical and vocational education and training (TVET), vocational and technical education and training (VTET), technical and vocational education (TVE), vocational and technical education and training (VTE), and further education and training (FET).
Industry leadership is a key feature of Australia's national vocational education and training system. Nationally recognised portable qualifications are based on demonstrated competence. Skills-based training and assessment occur around competency outcomes identified by industry.
The current VET Scholar is Mark Harris. Mark Harris is Senior Strategy Officer with the Queensland Department of Education and Training, Product Services, in South Brisbane. He will spend up to four months with State University of New York in Oswego examining vocational education and training to help improve VET workforce development.
